A quiet stroll along Zátkovo nábřeží and across Sokolský ostrov shows Budějovice from a completely different angle. You can walk as far as the confluence of the Vltava and Malše — where Přemysl Otakar II founded the town in 1265.
The Vltava and Malše meet directly below Zátkovo nábřeží — the town began at exactly this point. Until the mid-20th century, rafts carrying timber, salt and food to Prague passed here; the last propulsion raft in 1960.

The Vltava and Malše meet directly below Zátkovo nábřeží and the town began at exactly this point. At the confluence the difference between the two rivers is usually visible in colour and flow. Along this water, rafts about 130 metres long, built from six planks, once travelled to Prague.
