Sixty-eight hectares of green on the edge of town, reachable on foot from the centre. In the middle lies Lake Bagr with its own islet — a place for a whole afternoon rather than a half-hour walk. The lake was never in any plan: it is flooded gravel pits from post-war extraction that filled with groundwater on their own.
The largest park in Budějovice (68 hectares) was created in the 1950s by brigades — contemporary press says young people planted ten thousand trees here. Lake Bagr was in no plan: flooded pits after post-war gravel mining that filled with groundwater by themselves.

Lake Bagr has a water surface of 2.6 hectares, an islet of just under 1,600 m² and depth up to five metres. You can tell it is not a pond: it has no dam or inflow stream. Trees in the park are clearly of different ages — original fast-growing poplars and willows, from the mid-1980s oaks, beeches and limes. Nothing remains of the children's railway with a tunnel that ran here from 1958 to 1969.
