A smaller ruin above the Vltava is about 2–2.5 km on foot from Purkarec on the red mark and pairs naturally with raft navigation in Purkarec or a longer walk along the river from Hluboká.
Karlův hrádek stands on a wooded headland above the left bank of the Vltava and is freely accessible today. From Purkarec the red trail leads; local Vltavan gives about 2.5 km, another source about 2.2 km. It is a walking goal, not drive-to-the-wall. Its natural complement is Purkarec with the raft navigation hall; in season there is also paid boat transport from Purkarec towards Karlův hrádek.

- Park in Purkarec and follow the red trail along the Vltava.
- Walk the moat, rampart and surviving layout but stay on normal paths.
- On return stop in Purkarec at raft navigation — it connects the castle with the river below.
