An almost vanished castle above the Vltava is for discoverers, not hunters of big ruins — from Kamenný Újezd under 3 km on foot; on site mainly one wall, ramparts, moats and a steep cliff above the river.
Maškovec, also Kotek or Kotkův hrádek, is exactly the kind of place you would miss without a tip. Kamenný Újezd and the Budějovice tourist site confirm the position on a rock above the Vltava and very modest remains; Jihočeský venkov says the surviving wall is even better seen from the opposite bank on Fritschova stezka. From Kamenný Újezd green and blue marks lead; from Boršov you can come on blue along the Vltava. 🔴 The castle sits on a steep cliff edge — the view is strong but with children take much more care than at groomed Pořešín.
